BIG LEAGUE BASEBALL GAME PLAYED WITH TIDDLEDY WINKS
RULES FOR PLAYING
Any number of persons may play, divided into two sides. The winks are snapped from behind home plate, on some surface, such as the table, off the playing board itself. A resilient pad of cloth or felt makes the best shooting surface. If all players find it desirable, the playing board or field (the box) may be placed in an inclined position.
Each player in turn snaps a wink for his side until three outs are scored, when it becomes the other side’s inning. If only two players are taking part, a player snaps winks until three outs are scored, and it then becomes the other player’s turn or inning.
If a wink lands on any part of the playing field above the foul line but not in an opening, it counts as 1 strike. A wink falling below the foul line in the box, or anywhere outside the box, counts as a foul ball.
If a wink falls through or lands in an opening, the player (batter) does as indicated. If the opening is marked BALL, he scores 1 ball (using a peg to mark the hole at lower left). If the opening is marked STRIKE, he scores 1 strike. If OUT, 1 out is scored for his side. If a hit, he places a man on the proper base. If a home run, he scores 1 run or more, depending on the number of men on bases when the home run is batted.
If a man is already on first base, and another base hit is snapped, that man advances a base to make room for the new man. That is, only one man can be on one base at a time. Each time a new man advances, all those ahead of him advance accordingly. Thus, if a home run is batted with the bases full, 4 runs are scored. If 3 outs are counted against a player with bases full, no score
is made for those men.
Thus the game proceeds in general like ordinary baseball—if 4 balls are made, a man goes into play at first base; if 3 strikes are made, 1 out is scored against the side; and so on.
The score should be kept by innings and a normal game consists of 9 innings. In case of a tie at the end of the ninth inning, additional innings are played until one side has more runs. Any piece of paper may be used to keep score, marked off like the diagram below.
