ScotTwA the Brave

by W. Bruce Turnbull
Tune: Scotland the Brave

Hark now! The night is falling,
Hear, hear the winkers calling:
“Come, see our winks all yellow, red, green and blue.
Watch our great squidging skill,
Squop distant winks at will,
Ne’er miss a pot, Och
Weil maybe a few”

Towering in gallant fame,
ScotTwA thy mighty name
Rings forth of proud vict’ries all your winkers crave.
Game from the hearts of children,
Sport of great men and women.
Winks! Long may we be proven ScotTwA the brave!

Far off in foreign places
Sad are the Scottish faces
Longing to squidge their winks on Scots soil again.
Come! Now our tombstone’s fallen,
Rise to the Scottish calling:
“Wield squidgers rampant For ScotTwA again!”

The Squidgimus – the StATS anthem

by W. Bruce Turnbull
Tune: The Gaudeamus

Gaudeamus igitur,squidgimus dum winka,
Gaudeamus igitur,squidgimus dum winka,
Post squopabamus adversarios,
Post pottivimus nostri winka,
Reportabimus tiddles,
Victores erunt StATS!

Vivat Tiddlywinki vivat TiddlySoc,
Vivat Tiddlywinki vivat TiddlySoc,
Vivat membrum quodlibet,
Vivant membra quaelibet,
Semper sint in flore,
Semper sint in flore.

Pereat tristitia, pereant osores,
Pereat tristitia, pereant osores,
Pereat diabolus,
Quivis antoburschius,
Atque irresores,
Atque irresores!

Notes accompanying the Squidgimus by its author:

  1. This arrangement of the Gaudeamus was compiled by Bruce Turnbull (nobut an “O” Grade Latin scholar so excuse me endings) on the occasion of the founding of the St Andrews Tiddlywinks Society, May 1992.
  2. It should be sung to the traditional tune of Brahms Academic Overture (or the universally usable melody of Ilkley Moor Bar T’at if desired).
  3. During compilation it was noted that only minor alterations to verses two and three were required as these were probably more relevant to the issues facing a TiddlySoc than a university in full.
  4. A translation (loose as it may be) follows:

Let us be joyful while we squidge our winks
For after squopping our opponents, after potting all our winks,
We will win the tiddles, Victors will be StATS!

Long live Tiddlywinks! Long live TiddlySoc!
    Long live every player!
    Boy and girl may they forever prosper.Away with sadness, Away with all those who are full of hate;
    Away with those who stand against tiddlywinks players;
And any who come to scoff!
